The European Region of Gastronomy title is an expression of recognition to all involved in the gastronomic offer, both in food production and processing, as well as in the implementation and promotion of gastronomy. Slovenia, as a unique, top gastronomic destination for boutique, even 5-star, experiences, is getting ever greater visibility on the global scale. Furthermore, it so happened that Slovenia will also chair the Council of the European Union during this time.

In December, Lonely Planet published a new article explaining why Slovenia will be the European Region of Gastronomy in 2021, and describing the path to the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2021. The European Region of Gastronomy 2021 project is committed to improve the quality of life, and encompasses opportunities for education in healthy and sustainable living, and the sustainable development of gastronomy. It improves the national promotion of cuisine and gastronomy, and creates synergy with the local environment and culture. The article emphasises a colourful culture and gastronomy, introduces a new Green Cuisine concept, and points out the new TasteSlovenia.si website that tells the full story of gastronomy in Slovenia.
