State Secretary Dovžan meets chief Albanian negotiator with the EU Mazi

Yesterday, State Secretary Gašper Dovžan met with Ambassador Zef Mazi, chief Albanian negotiator for accession to the EU, State Minister and member of the Albanian Government. State Secretary Dovžan expressed support for Albania's rapprochement with the European Union and welcomed the EU's decision to open accession negotiations with Albania.

The talks centred on Albania's path towards EU membership. Ambassador Mazi brought State Secretary Dovžan up to speed on the details of the progress achieved thus far, especially concerning the efforts to implement recommended reforms. According to State Secretary Dovžan, Albania has made very good progress in the accession process. He pledged continued support and reiterated Slovenia’s readiness to share with Albanian representatives its experience and lessons learned to help Albania advance in the integration efforts.

State Secretary Dovžan welcomed the EU's decision to open accession talks with Albania, adopted this March, underscoring the importance of pursuing reforms in the priority areas as identified by the European Commission: the judiciary and the fight against corruption and organised crime, all within the set deadlines.

The officials agreed that the bilateral political cooperation is very good, while there remains scope for improvement in economic cooperation.
