In order to reach an agreement as soon as possible, President Michel will formulate a compromise proposal before the upcoming European Council meeting on 17 and 18 July.

Prime Minister Janša emphasised that an agreement must be reached before the summer break. We must not allow ourselves to be misled by the current relatively favourable pandemic situation as it can change very quickly. The focus should be on the main objective of the recovery package, namely helping those Member States that have been most affected and have the least capacity to recover. It is important that the allocation of funds between Member States be based on the principle of fairness or a Member State’s relative level of development. Prime Minister Janša strongly supported additional funding for the cohesion policy, rural development and the Just Transition Fund.
