In a video conference today the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša and the President of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia (FVG) autonomous region, Massimilano Fedriga, exchanged information on the current situation regarding COVID-19 and the measures adopted by Slovenia and the FVG region to combat the epidemic.

The results show that in comparison to other northern Italian autonomous regions the FVG was more successful in combating the COVID-19 epidemic. This is also extremely important for the municipalities of the coastal and Goriška regions in Slovenia. The civil protection services in Slovenia and in the FVG, whose cooperation is traditionally good, have already established appropriate connections in the new circumstances.

Mr Janša and Mr Fedriga agreed on the cooperation and exchange of experiences between health care workers and researchers, which will also be important in the further fight against the coronavirus epidemic. They also emphasised that a better European solidarity and a common approach were needed to face the challenges brought by the epidemic. Prime Minister Janša highlighted the need for a common EU debt instrument, which would provide for an efficient strategy to overcome the crisis.
