Slovenia allocates humanitarian aid to Iraq

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Slovenia provided a humanitarian contribution of 40,000 euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for urgent humanitarian aid to Iraq, thus meeting its commitment made during the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq in Kuwait in February 2018.

Iraq still requires considerable humanitarian aid, with nearly half of the population in need of the basic necessities of life and shelter, 1.5 million people internally displaced, and numerous refugees returning to the country, women and children being the most vulnerable.

Slovenia pledged humanitarian aid worth 100,000 euros for 2018-2020 in the framework of the International Conference; 30,000 euros have already been paid for 2018 and 2019. With the last contribution of 40,000 euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Slovenia fulfilled the commitment made at the Conference and continues its humanitarian efforts in the Middle East. Assisted by international organisations, through humanitarian projects by ITF Enhancing Human Security and in cooperation with Slovenian NGOs, the country provides aid to Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and Palestine.
