Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Andrej Benedejčič attended the Fourth Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (Ottawa Convention), held in Oslo between 25 and 29 November 2019.

In his speech, he reiterated Slovenia’s continued support to the Ottawa Convention and its concrete activities, mainly in the form of support to ITF Enhancing Human Security, based in Slovenia. According to his assessment, the Ottawa Convention is one of the most successful treaties regarding disarmament; at the same time, it also contributes to the attaining of sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda. He also stressed the importance of gender equality and respect for international law.

At the review conference, the Oslo Political Declaration and the Oslo Action Plan were adopted, among other documents aimed at strengthening the activities in this field. 

After his speech, Ambassador Benedejčič signed the honorary book thus reaffirming Slovenia’s commitment to the Ottawa Convention.
