Minister Cerar commended the excellent relations between Slovenia and Spain in different fields of cooperation. Besides their regular political dialogue, the two countries can take pride in their strengthened economic cooperation – their trade has reached a record high of more than EUR 1 billion over the past two years.

The ministers also discussed current European topics, such as migration, control of the EU’s external borders, the EU enlargement process and the situation in the Western Balkans, focusing on broader foreign policy and security issues. They advocated a strong, globally competitive EU, based on the solidarity among member states and the rule of law and emphasised the importance of the European perspective for the Western Balkan countries and the continuation of the reform processes in the region.

On his second visit to Slovenia this year, Foreign Minister Borrell Fontelles also participated in the panel discussion on multilateralism yesterday.
