MED9 LEADERS’ SUMMIT in Portorož
The group was established to promote closer cooperation and coordination on current issues within the European Union and the Mediterranean region. The highlight of Slovenia’s presidency, which began in October 2024 in Cyprus, will be the October MED9 Summit on the Slovenian coast — one of the largest international events organized by Slovenia in recent decades.
Prime Minister Dr Robert Golob will host the leaders of MED9 countries and invited high-level guests — including King Abdullah II of Jordan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen — on 20 October 2025 at the Kempinski Palace Hotel Portorož. The summit discussions will focus on exchanging views on current European topics and regional challenges, particularly strengthening economic competitiveness and addressing the situation in the Middle East, with an emphasis on the untenable conditions in Gaza.
