12th Slovenian Development Days: For a World without Hunger
This year’s events will focus on Slovenia's ODA targets and OECD DAC recommendations following the peer review of Slovenia’s development policy and the implementation of development cooperation. A special emphasis will be placed on global food security.
Throughout the week, numerous awareness-raising events will be held in cooperation with our partners: the Slovenian Global Action Platform (SLOGA), our strategic partner in humanitarian aid Slovenian Caritas, ITF Enhancing Human Security, Centre for European Perspective (CEP), Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) and Centre for International Cooperation and Development (CMSR). In Ljubljana and other cities, roundtable discussions, travelling exhibitions, lectures for students, a street festival, concerts and other events will take place to raise awareness of the role each individual can play in reducing food waste.
The event will kick off on 15 October with a National Conference on Slovenia's Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, which will take stock of the achievements of Slovenia's 20 years as an Official Development Aid (ODA) donor. The conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss ways to improve the effectiveness and visibility of Slovenia's actions in the international donor community.
Food security is one of the priority areas of Slovenia’s development cooperation and humanitarian aid. As a signatory to the Food Assistance Convention, Slovenia has over the years allocated a growing share of its humanitarian activities to food security. The 12th edition of the Slovenian Development Days will conclude with the 2nd Slovenian Humanitarian Forum and Conference, which will be held on 22 October under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. With contributions from senior officials of international organisations, the European Union, the European NGO Confederation CONCORD and representatives of Slovenian experts in the field, the discussions will address the challenges of transforming food systems and ways in which humanitarian aid can contribute to increased food security in conflict areas, and better integrate with the conflict prevention and peace-building efforts around the world.
The Slovenian Development Days have become the most important awareness-raising event in Slovenia in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, offering a platform for discussion on topical issues in this field between Slovenian and foreign experts, government representatives and NGOs, international organisations and academia.
