In March of this year, the Government adopted a decision endorsing Slovenia’s candidacy for membership in the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the 2025–2027 term. Slovenia presented its candidacy in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Paris, which is also accredited as Slovenia’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, during the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

During its presidency of MED9, Slovenia will focus on strengthening Europe's resilience and competitiveness, youth empowerment and capacity-building in higher education, digitalisation and culture as well as the EU enlargement and other foreign policy issues. A number of events will be organised during the Presidency, which you can follow on the dedicated MED9 website.

The Government has proclaimed 2026 the year of the poet Srečko Kosovel to mark the 100th anniversary of his death. The proclamation was proposed by the Sežana Municipality. The proposal was supported by the Slovenian Writers' Association, while the Ministry of Culture included it among the important national cultural projects.

Minister Asta Vrečko hosts a working meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the Western Balkans
On the margins of the official opening of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko hosted a working meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the Western Balkans at Villa Vipolže in Goriška Brda. The meeting was also attended by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, and the Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef.

Slovenian Cultural Holiday also marks the ceremonial opening of the cross-border European Capital of Culture
Yesterday, on the occasion of the Slovenian Cultural Holiday, the opening ceremony From station to station took place to unite Nova Gorica and Gorizia as the European Capital of Culture for a year. Before the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko, together with European Commissioners Marta Kos and Glenn Micallef, addressed local and international journalists in Nova Gorica and hosted a reception for distinguished guests with delegations at Hotel Perla.
