Migration and Internal Administrative Affairs Directorate

The Migration and Internal Administrative Affairs Directorate develops and implements migration policy, with responsibility for legal migration and international protection. It prepares and coordinates proposals for measures to implement migration policy, as well as legislative acts forming the legal basis for the Migration Office's work and decision making.

The Directorate is also responsible for civil status matters, the issuance of public documents, civil registration and citizenship administration. Its responsibilities further include the collection and administration of matters relating to weapons and explosives, as well as ensuring the conditions necessary for the provision of information services in the field of internal administrative affairs.

In the area of preventing and combating trafficking in human beings, the Directorate coordinates inter-ministerial cooperation and related activities. It also cooperates with European Union institutions and international organisations and ensures compliance with the requirements and recommendations of international monitoring mechanisms.
