Franci Matoz

Franci Matoz (born on 16 September 1963) graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 1996 and obtained a degree in law.

He began his career as a police officer in 1982, after graduating from the Police Cadet School in Tacen. In 1990, he graduated from the Internal Affairs College. During his service in the police force, he served as Commander of Koper Traffic Police Station. He continued his career as a trainee lawyer and, after passing the state law examination, became a lawyer in 2002 and opened his own law firm, where he practised until his appointment as Minister. 

During his service as a police officer, he worked across all areas of policing and gained extensive knowledge of police work. 

As a lawyer, he established Odvetniška družba Matoz, o. p. d. o. o., which had more than 20 employees in 2010. Odvetniška družba Matoz, o. p. d, o. o, provided legal services in all areas of law. 

He was also active in local self-government and was elected Municipal Councillor of the Divača Municipality for two terms. During this time, he gained insight in the functioning of local self-government. As part of his legal practice, he also provided legal advice to municipalities.

From 2020 to 2023, he served as Vice-President of the Supervisory Board of Slovenske železnice, President of the Supervisory Board of Luka Koper d.d. and President of the Management Board of the Bank Asset Management Company (DUTB).
