Franc Kangler

Franc Kangler was born on 8 July 1965 in Maribor. In 1989, he earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law in Maribor.


He began his professional career in 1984 in the internal affairs authorities, after which he joined the Duplek Municipality as the municipal secretary. In 1996, he was elected as a deputy to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. During his 1996-2007 term, he was a member of various working bodies, chaired the Committee on Transport, and served as Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Interior, Public Administration and Local Self-Government. He was a member of the Commission for the Supervision of Intelligence and Security Services and of the National Assembly Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly for 11 years. In 2006, he was elected Mayor of the City of Maribor and held this office until 2013. In 2012, he was elected to the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia for a five-year term. In the subsequent elections in 2017, he was re-elected as a member of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia.


In 2018, he was elected to the Maribor City Council on the List of Franc Kangler – New People’s Party of Slovenia. He held the last two positions until his appointment as State Secretary at the Ministry of the Interior.
