The Secretariat performs auxiliary, methodological, expert, technical and other tasks in the areas of organisation and management of human resources, materials management, financial and budgetary operations, and public procurement for public service and supply contracts valued below EUR 20,000 and public works contracts below EUR 40,000 (i.e. low-value contracts).

It performs tasks relating to document-management for the Ministry and the Public Sector Inspectorate and tasks relating to protection against natural and other disasters and civil defence, supervises the implementation of the Classified Information Act and regulations adopted on its basis, coordinates the implementation of crisis response measures, and is a contact point for all matters relating to the implementation of the cohesion policy at the Ministry that involve coordination, planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation with regard to the European Cohesion Policy Funds and their supervision.
