The Healthcare Users Sector carries out tasks relating to the health and well-being of the population of the Republic of Slovenia.

Our mandate covers healthcare for the uninsured and vulnerable populations, where we work to ensure equal access to quality healthcare services. We are also involved in the management of the National Commission for Disease Control, a key mechanism for managing health threats at national level.

Our activities also include the management of rare diseases, where we are committed to ensuring that the specific needs of patients with rare diseases are met. We also pay special attention to areas such as the Special Medical Commission for Convicts, the Ethics Committee for Organ Transplants and the Medical Ethics Committee, where we follow ethical guidelines and professional standards.

Palliative care planning and monitoring is also an important part of our mandate, where we strive to provide quality care to patients in the end-of-life stages. We actively cooperate with healthcare providers, the Association of Healthcare Institutions of Slovenia and other stakeholders in the field of healthcare and health.

We also work closely with various institutions, including the Slovenian Ombudsman, the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, chambers, NGOs and other institutions. We answer citizens' questions on healthcare issues by calling 092, deal with requests for access to public information, prepare answers to journalists' and parliamentarians' questions, and manage personal data collections in accordance with the applicable legislation.

At inter-ministerial level, we coordinate cooperation in the preparation and coordination of development and other strategic documents, laws, by-laws and other materials in the field of our sector's work, thus contributing to the overall development and efficient functioning of the healthcare system in Slovenia.
