Janez Cigler Kralj

Janez Cigler Kralj (born on 28 December 1978) graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana and obtained a degree in political science, specialising in policy analysis and public administration.
In 2006, he joined the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia as a specialised assistant in public relations in the New Slovenia Deputy Group. In 2008, he joined the Infonet media d. d. media network. In 2010, he continued his career at the Slovene Human Resources Development and Scholarship Fund as a senior adviser in public relations. From 2012 to 2020, he served as a specialised assistant, undersecretary in the New Slovenia Deputy Group. Throughout this period, in addition to his other responsibilities, he was also involved in the fields of agriculture, forestry and food.
In 2020, he took office as the Minister of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the 14th Government of the Republic of Slovenia, a position which he held until 2022. During his office, he made key decisions aimed at protecting the lives and health of people, in particular those of the most vulnerable groups, initiated the construction of new care homes and adopted measures to stabilise the labour market, as the entire term of office was marked by the COVID-19 epidemic.
In 2022, he was elected as a deputy to the National Assembly on the New Slovenia – Christian Democrats list, where he served as the leader of the New Slovenia Deputy Group until the end of the term of office in 2026. In 2026, he was re-elected as deputy to the National Assembly and led the NSi, SLS, FOKUS Deputy Group until his appointment as Minister of Agriculture.
