Maša Žagar

Maša Žagar graduated from the Biotechnical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana and holds a degree in Agriculture - Animal Production.
After completing her studies, she began her professional career in 2001 at the Agriculture Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food. Throughout her career at the Directorate, she held various positions, including that of Head of the Sustainable Agriculture Division. In January 2023, she was appointed Director-General of the Agriculture Directorate, having previously served as Acting Director-General. In this role, she was responsible for the development of the strategic plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and other key national policies and legislation. She also made a significant contribution to Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
From 2015 to 2020, she served as Agricultural Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU in Brussels. In this capacity, she represented Slovenia's positions on agricultural matters before EU institutions as a speaker at the Special Committee on Agriculture.
She assumed her mandate as State Secretary on 1 May 2025.
