The VAIKARDD Project Implementation Unit provides technical, organisational and administrative support for the implementation of the VAIKARDD project. Its work focuses on establishing Slovenia’s geospatial digital twin, upgrading and integrating geodetic and spatial datasets, and developing modern digital services for public authorities, businesses, researchers and the public.

The Unit contributes to planning, coordinating and monitoring project activities and coordinates the work of participating departments, working groups and external contractors. It prepares and coordinates project documentation, supports the preparation and implementation of public procurement procedures, monitors schedules, expenditure, performance indicators and the quality of deliverables, and supports project risk management. It also assists with reporting and meeting EU cohesion policy requirements.

Its technical activities include supporting the provision of high-quality multidimensional spatial data, the development of the topographic information system, the integration of information systems, and the introduction of artificial intelligence and advanced spatial analytics. The Unit supports knowledge transfer, training, user assistance and communication of project results. Through its work, it contributes to improved access to and use of spatial data and to more effective and sustainable spatial and real estate management.

The project's name draws on history while also encompassing its key components. The name VAIKARDD pays tribute to Janez Vajkard Valvasor, a pioneer of cartography in Slovenia. At the same time, the acronym stands for: V – entering the digital space, AI – Artificial Intelligence, K – Knowledge, and DD – Digital Twin.
