Igor Sirc graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 1998. Since then he has been employed at the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration (SNSA). In his more than twenty years at the SNSA, he has been involved in different areas of nuclear and radiation safety. As a lawyer, he acted as the main vehicle in the process of the preparation of numerous acts, resolutions, regulations, and decrees, which were developed to harmonise Slovenian legislation with EU legal requirements and international safety standards. As a legal expert he has participated in IAEA IRRS and IPPAS missions and was a legal expert in different project groups within the technical assistance of the IAEA and EU – EuropeAid. In recent years he has been the Head of the Emergency Preparedness Division. In this function, he has demonstrated his managerial skills and capability in communicating with a number of stakeholders, both on national and international levels. He has been a representative of Slovenia in multiple international bodies in the area of emergency preparedness (IAEA, OECD NEA, and HERCA). He is a lecturer at IAEA events and SNSA Emergency Team training courses. As a member of SNSA management he has participated in the creation of the organisation’s vision, mission, and values and stands strong to continue the work of the SNSA as a highly respected regulatory body and nuclear regulator in Slovenia and abroad. He was appointed Director of the SNSA by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and began his five-year term on 1 May 2019.
