The Division for Road Maintenance and Protection and for Traffic Safety is responsible for the regular maintenance and protection of main and regional roads, as well as national bicycle routes; its functions and tasks are related to road safety. The Division's scope of work is structured around these main areas: regular maintenance, traffic management, traffic safety and the technical regulation of traffic, and the management and protection of roads.

Its mission is to ensure the safety and usability of national roads and bicycle routes throughout the year and to introduce improvements to the road network in terms of traffic management and safety.
