The Slovenian Environment Agency assists citizens and national authorities in making appropriate environment-related decisions. It monitors the state of the environment and provides quality public environmental data, protects the environment in compliance with regulations, preserves natural resources and biodiversity and ensures the sustainable development of the country. To this end, it carries out more than 200 different administrative procedures as laid down by national and European environmental legislation. In addition, it comprehensively addresses the issue of climate change, which is partly due to excessive greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, monitors emissions, maintains a record of emissions and exercises influence on emissions reduction through systemic measures. It produces background papers with proposals on how to adapt to changes in the environment and mitigate their negative effects. The Agency monitors, analyses and forecasts natural phenomena and processes in the environment (weather, water quality and quantity, earthquakes, air quality, climate change, etc.) and thus reduces natural threats to people and property.
