Slovenia Weekly: Economic growth as the foundation for prosperity

"The Government puts people's prosperity first", Prime Minister Janez Janša stressed in his address at the Slovenian Business Summit, "with economic growth and the creation of new value serving as the foundations of that prosperity". During a discussion with business sector representatives, he addressed the competitiveness of Slovenian and European economies, the importance of a stable and predictable business environment, tax policy, development opportunities, and measures to keep energy prices affordable.

On Sovereignty Day, we commemorated 25 October 1991, the day the last Yugoslav People's Army soldier left Slovenian territory. On the GOV.SI podcast, our guest was Lojze Peterle, the first Prime Minister of an independent Slovenia. During the interview, he recalled key moments in Slovenia's struggle for independence, including preparations for a potential military attack, efforts to secure international recognition for Slovenia and meetings with prominent European politicians at the time. He also emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation for the country's future, stating that we would not be able to achieve much without a shared foundation and a collective commitment to working together on certain issues.
