The Health Council is the highest professional coordinating and advisory body to the Minister for Health in the field of health, health care and health insurance. It is composed of representatives of the health profession, health economics and the organisation of health care.

The President and members of the Health Council are appointed for the duration of the Minister's term of office. The Health Council shall formulate the content of health programmes from the point of view of their feasibility, the equitable development of all disciplines and the principle of equal accessibility. It may ask the extended colleges of experts to adapt professional doctrine to the economic possibilities of the country or to propose the implementation of programmes in accordance with priorities and on a limited scale.

The Health Council, within the framework of the tasks laid down by the Health Act and the Health Council Regulations, discusses health care issues and proposes and monitors the implementation of health programmes. For more details on the tasks of the Health Council, see Article 3 of the Rules concerning the Health Council.
