Human Rights Ombudsman

The Human Rights Ombudsman supervises the conduct of all branches of power in Slovenia and their possible interference with the human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals.

In its work, the Human Rights Ombudsman is not limited only to finding direct violations of constitutionally guaranteed human rights and freedoms, but may also take action upon finding that authorities have violated or interfered with the rights of individuals. The Human Rights Ombudsman may address wider issues relevant to the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to the legal certainty of citizens in the Republic of Slovenia.

The Human Rights Ombudsman is an independent and autonomous state authority, and all procedures conducted by it are informal and free-of-charge for the parties involved.

The Human Rights Ombudsman is elected by the National Assembly on the proposal of the President of the Republic for a period of six years.
