The Social Affairs Inspection Service heads and organises inspection work, conducts direct inspections and carries out inspection programme tasks. It designs systemic solutions and prepares the most complex materials for the purposes of its work and the conduct of inspections and puts forwards proposals for regular inspections. It organises and carries out inspections and is responsible for decision-making in such inspections.

Petition for inspection

You can submit a petition for inspection if you believe that a social security provider is not acting in accordance with the regulations that define its tasks, and you have already exhausted other possibilities for exercising your rights, since otherwise an inspector may not take action.

Before submitting a petition we advise you to discuss your dissatisfaction with your treatment with the professional staff member in charge. If you are unable to resolve the disagreement, then inform that person’s superior. The director is responsible for organising the work and for dealing with certain disciplinary breaches.

Thus in the event of dissatisfaction with the provision of social security services, you must submit an objection to the work of the professional staff member to the council of the social security body, or in the event of dissatisfaction with the actions of a private individual, to the Social Chamber of Slovenia.

In certain cases special laws envisage a different way of dealing with disagreement or dissatisfaction (for instance it is possible to lodge an objection against the work of a custodian and the implementation of professional and administrative tasks in the area of custodianship, while breaches of the code of ethics in the area of social protection are dealt with by the Honorary Tribunal of the Social Chamber of Slovenia).

Prohibition on performing social protection activities

In 2017 and 2018 the Social Inspection Service issued two cautions regarding commercial entities and natural persons performing social protection services without the authorisation of the competent ministry, and published a list of providers which due to identified irregularities were issued with bans on performing social protection services until they had obtained the appropriate authorisations, and the removal of accommodated persons and arranging of their accommodation with providers of the public network of social protection services, with the assistance of the competent social work centres.
