About the Inspectorate for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries
The Inspectorate also supervises the procedures for the implementation of measures falling within the competence of the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Agricultural Markets and Rural Development.
Its inspection tasks relating to the implementation of regulations also include the areas of forestry, hunting, the protection of species of wild fauna, and marine and freshwater aquaculture.
The Inspectorate carries out official controls in the areas of the quality, labelling and safety of wine and other wine- and grape-based products, rural development, agricultural policy measures, zootechnics, the identification and registration of animals, the implementation of breeding programmes, the operation of selection centres, the provision of public services in agriculture, and good agricultural practice.
It provides supervision of the trade in organic and mineral fertilizers and their use and in soil improvers and their use in arable and pasture areas, in the area of animal by-products and derived products not intended for human consumption.
The Inspectorate also supervises the use of biodegradable waste, the protection of water and agricultural land against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources, and the coexistence of genetically modified crops with conventional and organic farming.
