Slovenia hosts Regional Meeting of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
Ljubljana is hosting the 25th Regional Meeting of the Member States of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Organised by the OPCW Technical Secretariat in cooperation with the Chemicals Office of the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the meeting serves as an important regional forum for discussing measures aimed at the complete elimination of chemical weapons.

Slovenia elected to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Executive Council for a two-year term
Slovenia’s two-year term on the Executive Council began on 12 May 2026. At the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, held in November 2025, Slovenia received 122 votes, the highest number among candidates from the Eastern European Group. “This is recognition of Slovenia’s active and responsible role in the international community,” emphasised Minister Fajon.

Slovenia elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
At the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, held in The Hague, the Netherlands, Slovenia was elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for the 2026–2028 term. The Slovenian delegation at the conference is being led by State Secretary Dr Melita Gabrič.

Minister Anže Logar meets with Fernando Arias, Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
Today in The Hague, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Anže Logar met with Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Fernando Arias. This is the first visit of a Slovenian foreign minister to the seat of the Organisation. The talks mainly focused on an assessment of global progress in the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and a review of cooperation between Slovenia and the OPCW, particularly in the light of Slovenia’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2021.

24th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the CWC
The Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Ambassador Andrej Benedejčič, stated at the 24th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention: “Only a multilateral approach, assisted by the Convention and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, can pave the way for a world free of chemical weapons.”
