The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2026.

On the Independence and Unity Day, President Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar awarded the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia the Golden Order for Merits. The national archives received the decoration for its exceptional importance in preserving cultural heritage and managing the archival public service. The award is a confirmation of our mission and belongs to all generations of archivists who care for our national memory.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, the archival reading room and the information room will exceptionally be open only until 12:00 PM.

The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of December, which which discusses the first "democratic" elections for the constituent assembly in "New Yugoslavia" on November 11, 1945. Voter turnout in Slovenia was approximately 92%, and around 85% of voters officially cast their ballot for the People's Front, or in favor of the republic.reality.

The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia reached the pinnacle of its anniversary celebrations with a special commemorative ceremony, held to mark its 80 years of operation as an independent institution. The event took place at the National Gallery in Ljubljana.

Under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, this formal ceremony emphasized the archives vital and irreplaceable role in safeguarding Slovenia's cultural heritage for future generations.

The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of November, a which presents an interesting yet always relevant question about the level of salary and relationships between colleagues. The story takes us to the end of the 19th century and introduces the troubles of the 'provincial' archivist Anton Koblar in his struggle for fair pay, raising the question of how much the care for cultural heritage is worth in reality. The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia will be closed to visitors and users of archival records on October 8 and 9, 2025, due to a two-day professional event.

The Archivalia of the Month section features the Archivalia of the month of October, which presents a self-reflection and insightful analysis by Ciril Zlobec, one of the most important Slovenian cultural figures of the second half of the 20th century, at Republic Square in May 1995, which, even three decades after its creation, still accurately reflects today's socio-political reality. The reading room and information room of the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia at Poljanska cesta 40 in Ljubljana will be open from June 23 to August 29, 2025, according to summer hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 2 PM.

The online column Archivalia of the Month has been published since January 2011. Its purpose is to promote the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia and its archival holdings. Presented in the column are archival documents that are interesting visually and content-wise, as well as newly acquired documents or the ones that have so far been overlooked. Also published are documents relating to various anniversaries, current events and many more.
