The United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to raise awareness of the importance of the full and equal participation of women in all fields of science. The aim is also to promote the elimination of discrimination and the removal of legal, economic, social and cultural barriers that continue to hinder women’s access to careers in science.

The construction of the new Vrazov trg Campus of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana is continuing successfully and approaching the final phase of construction works. While inspecting the progress, Minister Igor Papič and Gregor Majdič, Rector of the University of Ljubljana, discussed the construction conclusion.

Construction has begun in Maribor on Arnes' data centre, which will also house a supercomputer for the artificial intelligence factory. This will be the biggest data centre in Slovenia. This was the first event since Slovenia assumed the one-year Presidency of MED9, a group of EU Member States in the Mediterranean.

Slovenia joins the countries that will play a key role in the future of AI in Europe. Under the EU's latest initiative, Slovenia will host one of six new AI factories, backed by a high-performance supercomputer. This is a strategic step towards the development of a state-of-the-art computing infrastructure that will strengthen research, innovation and digital sovereignty of Slovenia and Europe.

During its presidency of MED9, Slovenia will focus on strengthening Europe's resilience and competitiveness, youth empowerment and capacity-building in higher education, digitalisation and culture as well as the EU enlargement and other foreign policy issues. The Commission for Equal Opportunities in Science of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation would like to carry out a special survey to examine the working conditions and career prospects of science employees in Slovenia.

An expert working group chaired by Dr Janez Vogrinc has adopted the final proposal for the National Education Programme for the period 2023–2033 and submitted it to Minister of Education Darjo Felda.

Today, an opening event was held at the Novo Mesto School Centre to launch the project ‘Digitalising education in primary schools, secondary schools and adult education (equipment)’. In the framework of this project, co-financed by Next Generation EU funds, 1066 educational institutions will receive various types of equipment.
