The discussion also addressed measures to strengthen economic competitiveness and remove bureaucratic hurdles, as well as the vital necessity of deepening the EU internal market.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Dr Golob emphasised that the consequences of the current energy market situation can, for the time being, be successfully mitigated through appropriate national measures. Despite market prices having temporarily stabilised, the situation in the Middle East must be monitored closely in the coming days. Given that the price and reliability of natural gas supply are particularly crucial for the European economy, an appropriate EU-level response will be required should major shifts occur in this area. He also expressed his support for leaders' efforts to strengthen the EU's competitiveness more decisively.

This videoconference meeting is one of the preparations for the European Council meeting scheduled for 19 March 2026.
