VTS services are available as of today

The Republic of Slovenia has notified the International Maritime Organization that, effective January 1, 2026, a VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) – a service for monitoring, managing, and controlling vessel traffic – will begin operating under the Maritime Administration.

The VTS service has been providing VTS services since January 6, 2026, marking a significant step toward strengthening the country’s sovereignty at sea.

Two regulations were adopted to implement the VTS service, the Regulation Amending the Regulation on Maritime Traffic Control and the Rules on the Service for Monitoring, Managing, and Controlling Vessel Traffic. The competent authority for implementing the VTS service is the Maritime Administration.

The VTS service will be provided by VTS operators of the Maritime Administration in the internal waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Slovenia. Ships will be required to notify the VTS service of their arrival one hour prior to entering the VTS area, in accordance with international rules, and to cooperate with the VTS service. This will enhance the efficiency and safety of navigation, the safety of human life at sea, and the protection of the marine environment.
