New Year message from Prime Minister Robert Golob

Dear citizens, dear Slovenians at home and abroad, as the year slowly draws to a close and we prepare for a new chapter, I would like to pause for a moment together with you.
Robert Golob is standing with a Christmas tree in the background.

I believe that we, as a nation, are on the right path. This path is not created by one person alone; it is a path we can only create together.

I am convinced there is a spark of optimism, a spark of confidence, in each of us. It is my sincere wish is that we nurture this spark in the coming year – each of us individually and all of us together. For a path that is built by an entire nation never begins at the top: it begins with the individual. With each one of us.

That is why I invite you to pause together for a moment before the calendar turns its first page. Not to look at what we lack, but to realise how much we already have – what surrounds us, who stands by our side. In life, it often happens that we achieve something yet do not feel the happiness we expected. That is why it is crucial that we dare to look around us with gratitude.

And let us look into the eyes of the people around us – with respect, with a willingness to accept one another in all our diversity. For therein lies the strength of a community: we do not all have to be the same in order to be one.

I do not wish to idealize, but each of us has our own inner judge. It is that voice that sometimes oppresses us, disturbs us, limits us. Yet when we are connected as a community, when we trust and respect one another, that voice grows quieter – because together we can achieve more.

Let us not be afraid of conversations. Not only about successes, but also about difficulties, hardships and weaknesses. For there is nothing shameful in vulnerability: there is, however, great courage. And those of us who know how to listen even when it is not easy will know how to build a society together in which every individual is heard and respected.

So let the new year be a year in which we are even more connected.

I wish you a peaceful, heartfelt and courageous year 2026. Good luck and all the best!

Dr Robert Golob
Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia
