Prime Minister Dr Golob spoke during the National Assembly about the proposals approved by the Government last week to ensure greater security in security-risk areas. The changes are necessary, but he leaves room for the MPs to propose even better solutions in the parliamentary process, the Prime Minister told MPs.

The Prime Minister focused on three areas. The first area is how to increase the security of all citizens in Slovenia, wherever they reside. The second area focuses on how to develop a more effective sentencing policy towards offenders and how to ensure more effective prosecution of criminal offences. The third area is related to preventing a sense of impunity.

Regarding measures to ensure security, the Prime Minister particularly highlighted preventive measures against the use of illegal weapons. ‘These are not repressive measures. These are measures to prevent the use of weapons,’ the Prime Minister said. He emphasised that this is about going after the illegal possession of weapons and entry into homes will not be possible just because of possession. ‘However, entry into a home without a warrant will be possible only when it is assessed that there is a threat to health or life. In such a case, the weapon may be confiscated. This is not a house search, it is a weapon seizure,’ the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Dr Golob also announced: ‘As soon as possible, we will also introduce legislation to initiate a mass call for the surrender of illegal weapons. We want to give anyone in possession of illegal weapons the opportunity to surrender them to the police without legal repercussions. In this way, we want to give those with honest intentions the opportunity to rid themselves of these weapons,’ said Prime Minister Dr Golob. ‘After this period, we will expect the police to act effectively and, above all, promptly when there is a perception of unauthorised use of weapons.’
