Veleposlanik Mirošič s predsednico države Pirc Musar obiskal slovensko skupnost v mestu Cleveland
Ambassador Mirošič, together with the President of the Republic Pirc Musar attended a reception for the Slovenian community on the occasion of the President Nataša Pirc Musar's visit to Cleveland, organized by the Slovenian Consulate General in Cleveland.
In his address to Slovenians in America, Ambassador Mirošič emphasized the importance of the President’s visit, taking place a quarter of a century after the last visit of a Slovenian president to Slovenians in Ohio. He assured the Slovenian community in Cleveland of the continued support of the Slovenian Embassy in Washington and the Consulate General in Cleveland, and thanked them for their efforts in preserving Slovenian culture, language, and identity. Living abroad while keeping a strong memory of one’s homeland Slovenia is not easy. Among all the political, economic, and cultural tasks of the embassy, support for the Slovenian community is therefore one of its most important missions. Slovenians living in the United States of America are the most important foundation in relations between Slovenia and the U.S., with whom Slovenia seeks to develop good and friendly relations.
On the occasion of the visit, the President of the Republic of Slovenia presented the Slovenian community in Ohio with an award for their long-standing and persistent efforts in preserving Slovenian cultural heritage, language, national identity, values, and historical memory in the U.S., as well as for their key contribution to the efforts for international recognition of Slovenia’s independence.
Together with the President and members of the Slovenian community, the Ambassador visited the memorial plaque “Slovenians, Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence”, St. Vitus Church and its Slovenian school, as well as the Church of the Assumption of Mary and its Slovenian school. They also visited the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Avenue, the Slovenian Museum and Archives, and the reading room. The delegation also visited the Slovenian community at Pristava.
