Slovenia’s participation in the main annual events of EuroPris and the Council of Europe
In Kraków, Poland, two major events for the European prison and probation community were held between 23 and 25 September 2025: first the Annual General Meeting of EuroPris (AGM), followed by the 30th Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services (CDPPS). Slovenia was represented by the Director-General of the Prison Administration and a representative of the General Office for International Cooperation.
At the EuroPris Annual General Meeting, discussions focused on the management of prison systems, innovations in digitalisation, security challenges, and strengthening cooperation among members in developing common standards. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange best practices and reinforced EuroPris’ role as a key platform for connecting European prison administrations.
The 30th CDPPS Conference, held under the theme “Can we move away from the overuse of penal sanctions?”, addressed a wide range of topics, including alternatives to imprisonment, the use of data and risk assessment tools in penal policy, the situation of children with imprisoned parents, crisis management in prison and probation services, as well as the interplay between neuroscience and the rights of individuals within the criminal justice system.
The participation of Slovenian representatives at both events represents an important contribution to the international professional dialogue and to strengthening cooperation in the development of humane, fair and effective prison systems.
