Novo mesto gains 186 new public rental housing units

186 new public rental housing units were opened today in the Podbreznik neighbourhood of Novo Mesto, built by the Housing Fund of the Republic of Slovenia and the Novo mesto Municipality. This is one of the largest public housing projects in the Dolenjska region.

The estimated value of the project with five multi-dwelling buildings is just over EUR 30 million. Three buildings were built by the Housing Fund with the help of a capital injection of EUR 8.3 million from the Ministry of a Solidarity-Based Future, EU funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan amounting to a good EUR 600,000, and its own funds and funds from the Council of Europe Development Bank. Two were built by the Novo mesto municipality (one with the Housing Fund as a co-investor).

Under the European Recovery and Resilience Plan, 25 housing projects have been supported to date, the share amounting to EUR 40.2 million out of a total of EUR 60 million. Another five projects will receive EUR 17 million this year, with the remaining funds to be allocated through a new public tender. The applicants' applications are currently being reviewed, and the review is expected to be completed next month. With the help of funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, 1,000 apartments will be built across the country.
