Ahead of the European elections: the importance of critical thinking and recognising disinformation
The European-wide awareness campaign draws attention to the risks, emphasises the importance of critical thinking and provides practical advice on how to recognise and deal with disinformation. Its main tool is a video that will be broadcast in linguistically adapted versions in all EU Member States. Users of online platforms will not miss it on social media, while adapted language versions will also be available to television viewers and radio listeners.
The campaign is conducted under the auspices of the European Commission and the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA). It represents another European measure to raise awareness of the risks of disinformation and foreign manipulation ahead of the European elections.
Running until the European elections under the slogan Protect yourself from manipulation, the campaign conveys a key message of democratic societies about the importance of every vote in decision-making processes.
Among the key recommendations highlighted by the campaign are maintaining a critical attitude towards online content, being aware of the possibility of technically altered audio or video, and the necessity of verifying the source of published information.
