State Secretary Štucin and Deputy Foreign Minister of Türkiye Bozay on enhancing relations

State Secretary Marko Štucin held political consultations with Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Türkiye in Ankara. The officials welcomed the extensive political dialogue and exchanged views on current foreign policy issues.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Štucin and Deputy Foreign Minister Bozay expressed their satisfaction with the very good bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Türkiye. They explored the possibilities for further enhancing cooperation in various fields, with particular emphasis on economic cooperation. Slovenia and Türkiye concluded a strategic partnership in 2011 and are currently coordinating an Action Plan for the next three-year period, which constitutes the implementing act of the partnership. "In recent years, we have seen increased activity between the two countries in many areas, especially in the economic field, where trade in goods has been growing steadily," said State Secretary Štucin.

The officials also exchanged views on the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. They paid particular attention to the Western Balkans, where Slovenia and Türkiye share views on the importance of ensuring regional stability and EU integration. They also discussed topical issues on the United Nations Security Council agenda, including the Cyprus issue. They reviewed possible steps towards constructive cooperation between the EU and Türkiye, including the possibility of modernising the customs union.
