Minister Fajon expresses support for Moldova's European perspective to the Moldovan Foreign Minister

In a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon recalled that today Slovenia and Moldova are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In the conversation, Minister Fajon expressed Slovenia's support for Moldova's European perspective and its efforts on the path towards the EU. In the light of the forthcoming European Commission report on Moldova's progress, she underlined the steps forward made by the Moldovan authorities in addressing key reform priorities.

"Slovenia encourages Moldova to continue implementing the reforms, particularly those related to the rule of law, justice and the fight against corruption, and will keep providing its assistance."

Minister Fajon expressed her solidarity with the people of Moldova, who are suffering negative consequences in the energy, security, economic and humanitarian spheres as a result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. She called for continued European assistance to Moldova to help mitigate these effects and strengthen the country's resilience.

At the end of the conversation, Minister Fajon underlined the importance of a mutual commitment to continue political dialogue in order to find opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

"We will continue to strengthen the ties of friendship based on trust and mutual respect between our two peoples," said Minister Fajon.
