Prime Minister signs agreement with the deputies of the national communities: National communities enrich us

Prime Minister Robert Golob and deputies of the Italian and Hungarian national communities, Felice Žiža and Ferenc Horváth, today formalised their cooperation by signing an agreement.

"The Coalition and the Government are aware of the importance of cooperation with national communities, because they enrich us. We did not rush into signing the agreement, as the decision to enter into this cooperation was not influenced by daily political developments. We want to make it clear that we support the work of the national communities in the long term," said Prime Minister Golob after the signing of the agreement.

The agreement focuses on the further development of the autochthonous communities and on specific projects in education, industry, culture and the public use of the languages of both minorities. "The agreement provides a stable framework for the activities of both communities. This is a key commitment and a key objective of this agreement," the Prime Minister underlined, adding that the aim is to strengthen the national communities’ respective positions.

The Government already works constructively and excellently with the deputies of the Italian and Hungarian national communities, and the signed agreement will further strengthen and deepen the mutual cooperation. The Prime Minister stressed that this kind of good practice could also set an example for neighbouring countries: "I am convinced that the word of this good cooperation will spread beyond our borders, which is one of the purposes of signing this agreement."
