United in diversity on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

This year's theme for the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, "Together always: united in diversity", reminds us that all people, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, are born free and are equal in dignity and rights.

Recently, there has been an increase in the level of violence, discrimination and exclusion targeting LGBTI people in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Conflicts and humanitarian emergencies further increase their vulnerability. To prevent these negative practices, awareness-raising and education on human rights is crucial as it constitutes a fundamental basis for an understanding, tolerant, inclusive and multicultural society.

Slovenia, through its activities in international institutions, calls on all countries that criminalise homosexuality and where the death penalty is being introduced or is already in force for consensual same-sex relationships to put an end to discriminatory practices and to abolish regulations that discriminate and perpetrate violence against LGBTI people.
