State Secretary Štucin holds consultations with Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Gîtman

State Secretary Marko Štucin hosted Daniela Gîtman, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The talks were aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on current European, regional and international topics and EU enlargement.

State Secretary Štucin and Secretary of State Gîtman confirmed their mutual willingness to strengthen bilateral relations between Slovenia and Romania, two friendly countries, EU and NATO members, with a number of common interests and shared positions. They exchanged views on current foreign policy issues, focusing on the situation in the Western Balkans and EU enlargement, the situation in Ukraine and relations with Moldova and Georgia. The importance of continued support for Ukraine and of ensuring accountability of the Russian regime for the crimes committed in Ukraine was underlined. In this context, State Secretary Štucin raised the topic of the MLA Diplomatic Conference for the adoption of the Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes and Other International Crimes, which will take place in Ljubljana from 15 to 26 May 2023.

They discussed a number of topical European issues. In this context, State Secretary Štucin, among other things, called for the full functioning of the Schengen area and the abolition of internal border controls, and assured Slovenia's continued support for Romania's accession to Schengen.
