On 3 December, the Slovenian Embassy in Beijing organized the Slovenian-Chinese poetry reading, "Poetry is the Salt of the World". The event was organized in collaboration with the City Library Kranj, the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Beijing restaurant Tian xia yan (The Lord of Salt).

On the Slovenian side, Esad Babačić, Anja Z. Golob, Gregor Podlogar, and Karlo Hmeljak read their poems, while Dai Weina, Lan Lan, Zhao Ye, and Er Mao represented the Chinese side. The poems were translated into both languages especially for this event - Dr. Matej Zima, Dr. Luka Golež, Dr. Katja Kolšek and two students of Slovenian language at the BSFU, Ge Minsong and Wang Yucheng, provided the translations. Professor of the Slovenian language in Beijing Metka Lokar helped both Chinese students with the translations into Slovenian language and also proofread all the translations into Slovenian.

The hybrid event took place in Beijing and Kranj simultaneously, with approximately one hundred people on both sides attending. It was a great success, and the Slovenian Embassy in Beijing will publish a booklet with the translations of all the poems in both languages. We hope to continue with this very fruitful mode of exchange between the Slovenian and Chinese literature world.
