"In Europe, cross-border cities that found the opportunities for joint projects even though they are located on the periphery of their countries are of strategic importance. In many cases, such projects have led to a practical integration of various services, cultural life, infrastructure, the economy, thereby improving the lives of citizens," explained the State Secretary.

During the discussion, the participants exchanged views and best practice experiences in cross-border collaboration that provide a sound footing on which cities can grow and develop through the formulation of common development policies. They also discussed how the EU and its Member States can help facilitate the process of establishing cross-border cities and include them in future EU integration strategies.

The conference European Cultural Links - Cross-border cities as European meeting points takes place within the framework of the XVIII International Forum organised by the Mitteleuropa Association.
