Roaming in the EU without extra charges extended until 2032

  • Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Digital Transformation
As of today, a new and improved Roaming Regulation is in force. The regulation extends the scheme 'roaming like at home' until 2032. This scheme allows travellers in the European Union and the European Economic Area to make calls, write messages and browse the web during their stay abroad without extra costs.

The new rules significantly benefit businesses and EU citizens by providing a better roaming experience with the same quality of mobile services abroad as at home. At the same time, the new rules improve access to emergency communications across the EU. The new rules require an explicit provision of information on the services that may incur additional costs.

Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for Europe Fit for Digital Age, said: "Thanks to our Roaming Regulation, we have all been able to enjoy the ‘Roaming at Home’ scheme. When we travel within the EU, we can make calls, send messages and use the internet at no extra cost - a very tangible example of the benefits of our European Single Market. Extending these rules will keep inter-operator tariffs competitive and allow consumers to enjoy free roaming services for another ten years."
