Prime Minister Dr Robert Golob discusses current European issues with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen

On the first day of his working visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Dr Robert Golob met European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen. Their talks focused on current European topics that will be on the agenda at the June European Council meeting.

The Slovenian Prime Minister and the EU Commission President exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and the Western Balkans, and addressed the issue of rising energy prices in Europe and investments in the green transition.

They both agreed that the EU should give a uniform and determined response to the current challenges and that it must be sufficiently ambitious as regards energy supply and the green transition.

The Prime Minister began his visit by visiting the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU, and also met with the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, in the afternoon. Among other things, they discussed the needs and possibilities of providing assistance to Ukraine, particularly in the context of demining and medical care for patients and wounded soldiers.

Tomorrow, Friday, 17 June 2022, the Prime Minister will also meet with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
