The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has concluded that, in 2022, the Republic of Slovenia will make a humanitarian contribution to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the amount of EUR 100,000 to assist the people of Ukraine. The contribution will be provided from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. Slovenia has already provided Ukraine with material assistance totalling EUR 163,000.

In response to the serious humanitarian situation faced by the people of Ukraine, Slovenia will contribute EUR 100,000 to the ICRC in accordance with the Slovenian priorities of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid and with the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Slovenia. Despite the current security situation, the ICRC remains fully present in Ukraine and continues to carry out its humanitarian activities for the benefit of the civilian population, maintaining its operational flexibility to respond to the evolving needs.

The ICRC’s operation in Ukraine is geared towards ensuring the immediate and long-term needs of the population and their living conditions, including access to water, medical care and other essential services. It also helps find and reunite families displaced by conflicts and search for persons reported missing in line with international humanitarian law. The ICRC works closely with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.

In recent days, Slovenia has already provided material assistance to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 163,000 via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, having shipped to the area 200 sleeping bags, 200 pairs of rubber boots, 10 diesel-powered generators, 250,000 pairs of latex gloves, 250,000 pairs of nitrile gloves, and 600,000 non-medical masks.
