State Secretary Dr Stanislav Raščan attended the virtual event "Inclusive and Resilient Digital Transition: A New Chapter for the AU-EU Relations?" at which he stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the African Union and the European Union in this field.

In his opening address, State Secretary Raščan underlined that the impact of digitalisation and new technologies on human rights and freedoms demands increased attention, as the rapid development of breakthrough technologies offers not only opportunities but also challenges. This also applies to the African Union and the European Union and to their mutual relations. Both Unions are making tackling the challenges of inclusive and resilient digital transformation a political priority.

State Secretary Raščan also pointed out that creating an open and secure digital environment with legal clarity and certainty for all participants requires a strategic approach, intercontinental dialogue and cooperation between Africa and Europe.

The event was co-organised by the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Union Institute for Security Studies, the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise and Research ICT Africa, a think tank.
