State Secretary Dr. Raščan at the 105th memorial event at the Russian Chapel

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
State Secretary Dr. Stanislav Raščan attended on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the 105th commemoration at the Russian Chapel below the Vršič Pass.

The honorary patron and keynote speaker was Zdravko Počivalšek as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, and Co-Chair of the Slovenian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission. Dedicated to important anniversaries and historic meetings that took place in Slovenia, this year’s traditional ceremony was attended by the Russian Federation’s high representatives of the State Duma and the Federation Council. The Russian Chapel was built in 1916 to honour the memory of the Russian prisoners of war who had perished in an avalanche during the construction of the road across the Vršič Pass, which made the Chapel a distinctive symbol of friendship and positive relations between the two countries. The event has been organised since 1995 by the Russian Peace Foundation, the Slovenia-Russia Association, the Municipality of Kranjska Gora, and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ljubljana.
