The high-level event focused on finding ways and means to help the Latin American and Caribbean countries recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is these two regions that have been most affected worldwide, and the impact of the pandemic has revealed the fragility of the progress the two regions have made in recent years.

State Secretary Raščan pledged that Slovenia, as the presiding country of the Council of the European Union, would closely monitor developments in the region and strive to find ways to support Latin American and Caribbean countries on their recovery path. Recovery is an important opportunity for countries in these regions to respond in an innovative way to some structural issues and policies.
